This trip is a three day circular cycling tour for keen amateur road cyclists – expect a significant daily mileage, some tough climbs and very little in the way of flats.

The Chilterns and Cotswolds offer some of the best road cycling in the UK. Over the course of three days, we’ll follow some stunning country roads, where the terrain ranges from rolling hills in the Chilterns to beautiful views and gradients of the Cotswolds. We’ll enjoy market towns, beautiful chocolate box villages and most importantly cycling the quiet country lanes.

We love planning circular routes – it allows us to keep the days fresh so you see the best of the countryside, but also ensures you can get back home to enjoy the last of the weekend for all important rest and recovery before the start of the working week.

Route Details

Distance: 140 km – 87 miles
Climbing: 1,785 m –  5,858 ft

We’ll be tackling three of the toughest climbs in the area early on our first day to make the most of our fresh legs. Whiteleaf is notorious for being one of the hardest hills in the Chilterns – it’s only 1.3 km in length but with an average gradient of 9% and 20% at its steepest, the panoramic views at the top make it worth the sweat. Soon after the Whiteleaf descent we’ll take it slow and steady up Wardrobes and Kingston Hill – both infamous climbs, albeit a little less gruelling.  How could we miss some of the Chilterns finest?
We’ll celebrate with a beer or two after a brilliantly rewarding first day of our A to B adventure.

Distance: 143 km – 89 miles
Climbing: 2,534 m –  5,035 ft

With a little over 5,000ft of climbing in 89 miles, Day 2 delivers the best this AONB has to offer.  Picture gliding through picturesque dry stone walled English countryside with uninterrupted views both sides of the road. Barely any traffic, very few give ways, the roads just go on and on…  This is the Cotswolds! We will tackle The W climb, but Day 2 is about taking in the beautiful lanes that undulate and twist their way around the villages before we land in the historic town of Banbury for the night.
Distance: 88 km – 54 miles
Climbing: 804 m –  2,638 ft

Day 3 will see us meander through the classic Home Counties of Buckinghamshire – it really is picture-perfect and superb rural countryside.  The last day is purposely a little shorter – with no notable climbing, it will feel less challenging but also a lot faster.  The roads are quiet (a cyclists dream), so we’ll get the miles in our legs and blast back into Great Missenden in good time for you to return home for all-important R&R before the weekend is out.
